Melanie Stryder used to be a normal girl. Until the invaders came.

After insertion, Melanie Stryder refused to be erased by Wanderer. Wanderer is a soul along with most of the planet, now. Souls have been taking over human bodies for a few years but only in the past year have they taken over most of the planet.
After being assigned a Seeker that both Mel and Wanderer hate, they run away whist on a jouney to Tucson. They try to find them. Jamie and Jared. Due to Mel's presence in Wanderer's mind, Wanderer develops a love for the man and the boy that Melanie loves.
But, after running out of water and food in the desert, Wanderer and Mel figure out that they were walking the wrong way. With sheer will and determination, they walk back the way they came, getting halfway to the caves where Melanie's Uncle Jeb, Jared and Jamie live.
After being found by Jeb, Melanie and Wanderer are kept in a tiny, curved room. It's like prison, with guards outside the door 24/7.
Will Melanie ever escape from Wanderer?
Will they ever be accepted?
