He bears a grudge against Wanda and is unable to empathise with her for most of the book. He eventually developes a closer relationship with her in addition to the older brother love he has for Jamie and of course, his extreme devotion to Melanie. He is somewhat of a rival to Ian O'Shea because Ian sees Jared as a competition for Wanda's affections and also because of their differing initial reaction to Wanda. He is willing to do anything for the rebel humans. He is described as physically beautiful, with tan skin, brown eyes, and sunbleached hair.
