Darkness - Open

"Don't worry, you're safe here. We all are." For now.. " And we have Kyle," I joked. I looked at the arm she was rubbing. "Are you hurt?"

I cringed a little when she mentioned Kyle, he hated me because of what happened to Elizabeth...he blamed me, not that it wasnt my fault or anything but still. When she asked me about my arm I stopped rubbing it automatically and said "No" as quick as possible.

Woah, little defensive much ? I smiled anyway. "Good.".

I sighed, then smiled. "What are you doing up so late? Why are you here?" I asked, curious about why she could possibly be in the work rooms this late.

"Oh yeah," I'd kinda forgotten about Wanderer after I'd started panicking about Ever. "I was sorta kinda going to check on someone but I got the wrong room, I guess." I didn't want to tell the new girl about Wanderer. I wasn't sure how she'd take it. People here were only just getting used to the fact that we had a soul in our caves. I wondered how I'd been wrong about the room. I'd been in these caves for ages. I'd known the caves for almost as long. I'd wandered them at night before. I must've been really tired to make a mistake. I wondered how I was that tired.

"Oh" I replied, trying to act normal. Like I wasn't depressed, like I didn't see my dead little sister, like I wasn't some retarded weirdo.

"Are you sure you're okay? You seem..." I couldn't quite put my finger on the word.

"I'm fine." I said, far to quick to ever be believed."Really." I lied. I knew she wouldnt believe me but oh well.

I raised one eyebrow in the almost complete darkness. The answer was far too quick. "What's up?" I asked.

"Nothing..." I lied uselessly. If she carried on being suspicious I'd have to tell her.

I sighed. I had to be the stubbornest person in the caves, but also the harshest. I knew I shouldn't force it out of her, but I had to ask.. "Come on. We both know that's not true."

I sighed."If I tell you, you'll think I'm some lonely loser who's making stuff up" I replied.

Well, I believed Wanderer about Melanie... "I won't. I swear." I smiled.

"Well if you really want to know..." I sighed, contemplating whether or not to tell her.

"I do, and you can trust me. I won't tell anyone if you don't want me to." I smiled.

"I....I....I see my dead sister, I think I'm suppose to be dead myself. I'm totally not right in the head and I caused Elizabeths death, I even caused my own family's death. I'm total bad luck." I said, really really really quickly. Though some of that like, me causing the deaths of Liz and my family, were just my opinions. I blamed myself.

I blinked and stared at Ever in shock. "You...what?"

"Basically, I'm a mental person, who has caused quite a few deaths..." I said, looking at the floor. I'd blame myself for those deaths for the rest of my life, my scar making sure I never forgot.

I scooted closer to Ever. "Look, I don't know what happened, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't your fault." I smiled comfortingly.

"It is, I deserve every bad thing I get... I deserve to be dead..." I said, still staring at the floor.

"Don't say that," I told her seriously. "If you deserved to die, don't you think God would've let the souls take you ?" Wow. That was the wisest thing I'd ever said..

"What use am I alive though? I just cause more pain..." I said, looking up at her.

"I don't agree." i told her. "Look, you've been here for like a couple of weeks. Nothing bad has happened. At all." I smiled.

"It will..." I said, refusing to believe that I wasn't the one responsible for every bad thing that happened.

"I bet you anything that nothing bad will happen while you're here." I smiled. I'd be holding that bet for a long time . . .
